I believe there are plenty of ways to make movies with a profit.
Subscription springs to mind as the most obvious.

Besides, movies could be a lot cheaper than they are now if they skipped
the middle men. I don't think anybody would mind paying 50 cents to a
dollar to have a movie distributed on the premiere date.

Perhaps even a sliding price scale based on how close to the premiere
date you want to buy it. Right on the premiere date it could cost $10,
and an old movie could go for 10 cents.

This would also give smaller production studios an equal shot. But
perhaps this is what they should fear the most. Competitions based an
quality contant and not on means of distributuion.

So I guess that net based distribution directly from the movie producers
to the viewers Tivo, or similar device, would be an obvious way to go.

But what really irks me is that the screen development is going in the
wrong direction. I don't want a humongus CRT, LCD or plasma screen
neither for PC work nor for movie viewing. Not even a projector.

I want a pair of high resolution glasses to put on. Then I would not
need a table with room for a monitor. I would not have to use a whole
wall in my living room for the tv. The screen could have any virtual
size that would please me. I could watch a movie in bed without
disturbing my wifes sleep, or better yet, we could see a moovie together
while spooning. I could even cheat and see another movie than her ;-)

A resolution of 1024*768 at $150 - $300 would be my sweet spot. And then
I would want my movies delivered over the net.
