COMPUTING: Driving towards a petaflop

The NY Times is covering recent awards from the DOE to IBM
regardinging the planned installation of

Blue Gene/L (a 130K processor machine pushing 360 TFlops)
and
ASCI Purple (featuring 12,000 Power 5 microprocessors)
[Should have ~8x the Flops of the existing ASCI Blue
machine currently installed at Livermore.]

Its nice to see Blue Gene getting a sale so it isn't
"vaporware" anymore.
