Just an agreement with Samantha, this is absolutely correct. Having spent so
much time myself in hospital over the last 6 years I've personally witnessed
the changes including blocking systems for leukaemia (I had a transplant
myself, the blocker came more recently). They're instututing the blocker for
everyone regardless of testing systems (if you don't get a transplant, you'd
live about 6 years max. generally, until the blocker came in). Currently the
blocker works for 90% of cases (provided it's kept on being taken) but new
research may soon increase success rates to 98%. I had a friend whose
daughter had leukaemia and thought that was it without a tranplant (i.e. she
was going to die) and I told her where to go for further info.. Generically
however we can't concentrate enough on this. Currently our society in the
West thinks more about highways and sport! Even palliative care gets more
attention, while basic research at this most crucial of periods is
neglected. How about some Government somewhere getting keen on proteomic
research? In Australia it is as though the word "proteomic" comes from Mars,
when I was in San Franscisco two years ago it was front page of the business
section of the local paper!
