How to define Socialism?
Princeton University have a neat tool called the 3D Visual Thesaurus
available at:
http://www.visualthesaurus.com/index.jsp
Quote:- "An experiment in language and interface, Plumb Design's Visual
Thesaurus is both an artistic exploration and a tool to explore, study,
and analyze the structure of language. By displaying the
interrelationships between words and meanings as spatial maps, the
Visual Thesaurus translates language into a visible architecture".
Input any word and it gives you a 3D diagram linking nouns, verbs,
adjectives, adverbs,
grouping them as synonyms, antonyms, pertains to, entails, see-also,
similar, type-of, part-of, is-made-of and is-member-of.
It's a really fun tool!
For example, input:- Socialist
results in a big tree structure that you can follow down each branch,
seeing the links and getting definitions.
You can see immediately that Socialist links to Socialism, communist,
collectivist, commie, left-winger, leftist, Engels, Fabian society in
UK.
Capitalist links to Capitalism, free enterprise, competitive, private
enterprise, laissez-faire, bourgeois, individualistic, rugged
individualist, - why does Mike Lorrey immediately spring to mind? :-).
Of course, this software is only using the generally accepted meanings
of words. Please feel free to redefine the dictionary as you wish, for
your own use. ;-)
