Point of clarification: the reason they're resisting the postponement you
propose is because they aren't convinced *ahead of time* of the analogy
between SHRDLU programs and the upload problem. [I am, but they aren't.]
I realize that your rhetorical strategy is to "understand SHRDLU" before
moving on to the harder problem, but I suspect you'll have to justify your
postponement beforehand, by arguing for its validity [perhaps by way of
its conclusion], if you intend to make any actual conversational headway.
