The Italian communist party was founded only in 1921.
Mussolini was kicked out from the Socialist party in 1914, after a sudden
change from a non-interventist position to a pro-war one. The new
organization set up by him (the Fascist party before, and the dictatorship
after) was, and still is, on the far right of the political spectrum.
(I realize that right and left have different meanings here compared to
the US).
Saying that Mussolini has anything to do with socialism, or leftism in
general, is a big distorsion of the truth. Yes, he milited for a while in
the Socialist (not communist) party. After that, he went on the other side
and never looked back.
