Re: Tangent: Koran Quotes

Translated by N.J. Dawood
Edited by E.V. Rieu
Published by The Penguin Classics

There is no copyright notice anywhere in the book, but the date given
at the end of the introduction is 1955 - and it appears to be an
original print.

Also of interest, as stated in the Introduction by N.J. Dawood:

"It ought to be borne in mind that the Koran contains many statements
which, if not recognized as altogether obscure, lend themselves to more
than one interpretation. I have taken great pains to reproduce these
ambiguities wherever they occur, and have provided explanatory
footnotes in order to avoid turning the text into an interpretation
rather than a translation."

I don't really have the time - or indeed, after this many years out of
practice, the knowledge - to translate the text on my own. But I'd be
interested in reading a modern translation of the text to find how it
may differ. I may just pick one up now.
