Actually, a meaningful measure of human lineage proximity would be
mitochondrial mutations and to a lesser extent Y-chromosome ones. These
do confirm unsurprising things like the fact that most Europeans are more
closely related to each other than to Asians or Africans, etc. However,
there are a few surprises-- isolated ethnic groups unrelated to any of their
neighbors, and at least a dozen different groups in Africa that are more
distinct than Europeans and Asians are from each other. For more info, see--

On the other hand, it's not unreasonable to suppose that there are some
similar biological and cultural adaptations that a shared environment produces
in people, regardless of their lineage.
