Harvey,
       We may have a semantics difference involved here. However, Herrnstein
& Murray state very plainly that while, in their opinion, IQ is predictive
when taken in large groups it is not predictive at all for individuals.
Therefore they do not make any across the board statements "that IQ is the
predominant predictor of success and social class in life."
       My belief is that people do not pay close enough attention to
distinguishing between what positions Herrnstein & Murry take and what
studies they report having been done. Help me with this but I don't recall
Herrnstein & Murray having done a single study on race although they did
report that some studies had been done.
