It's amazing that humans can think of so many reasons to hate. Here
are the colors the Nazis used for their triangles. Sometimes they had
letter or number codes inside them.
Brown triangle - Gypsy
Purple triangle - Bible Researcher, one who interprets the Bible
"differently", Jehovah's Witness, Seventh Day Adventists,
Albigensians, Waldensians, considered false Christians, usually
because their prohibition against oaths prevented them from swearing
an oath to the Fatherland
Pink triangle - Homosexual males (A=Arschficker, 175=german law
paragraph #175)
Green triangle - Criminal (S=penal prisoner)
Red triangle - Political, usually communists, socialists, anarchists,
and Jews not interned for any other reason
Black triangle - Antisocial (A=labor disciplinary prisoner),
(Blod=mentally retarded), prostitutes, vagrants, murderers, thieves,
lesbians, mixed race or religion sex, often gypsies where brown not
used
Blue triangle - Emigrant (F=French, P=Polish, T=Czech, etc.)
Yellow triangle - Jew (underneath one of the other triangles above,
red if no other crime)
Stripe above triangle - added to those who were second offenders
Circle under triangle - added to penal prisoners
Circle in white circle under triangle - added to prisoners under
special watch, usually those who have tried to escape
See <http://www.igc.org/ddickerson/dachau-badges.html> for details.
The other bizarre group that was rounded up were twins. These were
lumped in with other genetic misfits and rounded up, but they did not
get color-coded triangles as the others. Instead, they were taken to
Mengele for experiments. He would compare them to determine what
attributes were genetic and what were not. He also would perform
experiments with disease, operations and torture on one and then
perform autopsies on both to compare the results.
See <http://history1900s.about.com/library/holocaust/aa112397.htm> for
details.
Great. Now I know six different reasons the Nazis would taken me
away. I would have worn five different colored triangles and been
taken to the twins' dorm for medical experimentation.
