Ah, there is nothing new under the sun, alas.

Actually, it has occurred to me that stock bots are already generating
the investment news. Perhaps that is why all the oy-veying brokers
look like their clothes were in fashion 10 years ago: thats when the
photos were taken. Everyone has left the building.

Consider the following jewels of wisdom. {My comments in brackets}:

"I think we've seen the lows and we're steadily going to build momentum
for a stronger market."

"Clearly, it's all about the economy. {Imagine that.} The consumers are
doing their part . Now the business side has to come along, too."
{Harvard MBA material, this.}

"A weaker-than-expected Institute for Supply Management report on
manufacturing punctuated the day's gloom, coming in below forecasts to
indicate continued sluggishness in the nation's manufacturing activity."

"The rally over the past five weeks needed confirmation in the data that
the economy is coming along. As long as that data remain inconclusive,
the market will be dominated by sellers." {Conjures images of
leather-clad women with whips and chains, on the trading floor
dominating the cowering
stockbrokers and shouting SELLING!}

"Today's sharp selloff shows that there were more bears on vacation in
August than we thought, and they've come back nasty." {Oh boy, more of
that nasty talk.}

"The psychology coming into September is very negative. But that
sentiment is predicated upon the big rally in late July going into
August. Now we're seeing a natural pullback, which is expected."

"Market breadth was negative. On the New York Stock Exchange, decliners
beat advancers 3-to-1 as 1.2 billion shares traded. On the Nasdaq,
losers topped winners 3-to-1 as 1.3 billion shares changed hands."

I ask you, which of the above comments would require an actual
carbon-based brain to generate? The last quote is a good example
of a generic statement that could be modified with an automated
fill-in-the-blank:

"Market breadth was ______ (negative, positive, neutral,
broad, narrow, double plus ungood, etc). On the New
York Stock Exchange, decliners beat advancers __-to-__
as ____ billion shares traded. On the Nasdaq, losers
topped winners __-to-__ as ___ billion shares changed
hands."
