As I said, it's a solution IF you're a mathematical realist. A defense of
mathematical realism itself is rather beyond my present resources. I'd
suggest the book _Philosophy of Mathematics: Structure and Ontology_ by
Stewart Shapiro if you're really interested. It explains and argues for a
brand of realism called structualism which I find most attractive.

There is also a chapter on structualism in _Thinking About Mathematics:
The Philosophy of Mathematics_ by the same author, which may be good for
people who are not already familiar with the philosophy of mathematics.
