I don't have the time to write a lengthy message on this thread, but I have
to side with Spike on this one. I think that Spike *is* saying what you
accuse him of, but I also think that it is very true. In business, it
takes a strong will and a survivalist mentality to not get "hurt"...be that
financially or otherwise. Depending on the business, it can be a very
rough terrain with peers becoming competitors at the drop of a dime; you
have to learn to trust certain kinds of people, and have a sort of sixth
sense about pretty much everyone. Do you see the parallel?
I don't think Spike (or I) are saying that it is "good to grow up as
'trailer trash,'" but that those who start off that way have to possess
many of the same qualities that make a good capitalist and entrepreneur. I
for one am glad I was raised in a mostly middle-class family...though even
I had some major adversity to go through a number of years ago, related to
class status.
Call me cruel and heartless, but I believe that *anyone* in *any* economic
class can become successful if he/she is so driven. Proof of this abounds.
