No John... it's not English but Latin...
It's a preposition that means "with all due respect
to" as in the phrase "I do not, pace other list
members, believe that a Singularity will occur within
this century."
It seems to me that is how Damien was using it. It
can also mean "peace" or "by favor".
The problem you ran into was you looked up the English
word "pace" which is a completely different word, even
though it's spelled the same.
