META: I'm Signing Off

Hi folks,

After many educational years on this list, I will be permanently un-subbing
myself by the end of this week.

There are a couple reasons worth mentioning as to why I am doing this.
First, I am deeply engaged in not one but two properly extropic technology
business ventures, which are consuming a very large percentage of my time.
I can't discuss exactly what it is that I am busy with this time, but you'll
be able to read about one venture in the prominent media rags shortly, and
the other is on a trajectory to be in a similar position a little while down
the road. Both ventures will be redefining the technology landscape on a
fairly broad and fundamental level, which makes it both interesting and
exciting (and profitable, of course).

Second, while I found this list intellectually engaging many years ago, this
is no longer the case and I am finding it difficult to justify the time I
spend here. You can call it "old-timer's syndrome" if you like, but I can
go back and look at the archives and see that the character of the list has
changed with time. That's fine; it is not my list and communities evolve.
It seems I've somehow ended up on the margins.

I'd like to thank all of the many bright people currently and formerly on
the list that has made it educational and worthwhile for all these years.
People on this list HAVE made a difference in my life and the vigorous
discussions have even changed my basic opinion in a few cases (e.g. Lee
Daniel Crocker was instrumental in reversing my basic view of the death
penalty, whether he knows it or not -- opinions CAN change). I still plan
on supporting the Extropy Institute, and I am forever grateful to those
folks for providing this service.

I'll see you all on the far side...

Cheers,

-James Rogers
