A friend has a company that makes devices which measure the
moment of inertia and product of inertia. This is about a $100K
piece of equipment. They sold one to a Japanese aerospace company.
A few months later the Japanese company returned the unit, saying
they couldn't get it to work right. My friend's employees worked
extensively on the unit and couldn't get it to work either, and
couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. Then they discovered
that one of the bolt holes had metric threads. All of the holes had
metric threads.
He wrote back to Japan saying the unit sent to him was a very
clever counterfeit. No one replied. He never heard back.
No one ever tried to claim the device, which my friend still
owns. {8^D spike
