Actually, pancritical rationalism was proposed as an excellent,
and possibly best, method for getting at the closest approximation
of truth humans can have. And part of the justification for some
other tenets is that they help people proceed with PCR-ish approaches
to truth. People fearing obliteration (by gun or some nanotech machine)
tend not to engage in calm, rational discussions. Extropianism includes
possibilities for drastic changes in human nature - in the soul, if you
will. Nobody, but nobody, wants to have their soul re-engineered
without their consent. Non-initiation of force, freedom of action,
etc. are important tools in providing this essential right.
