I have a friend who is writing a paper for on patenting genes.
His tentative thesis:
"Patenting genes is a social good because it will encourage investors to fund
research the field. The net outcome of genomic research will be positive.
We need to be careful and have government regulations to protect us from
potential dangerous out comes from transgenic research."
Please share you knowledge about sources of info on these issues.
It would be nice to point him to options that offorded public protection
without
inviting that government to regulate the research.
