This part of the world (France, Italy) is in a tizzy about the
election results.
I arrived in Nice, France last Sun morn for the European Geophysical
Society meeting, and sat in a central square watching folks place
their ballots in the voting boxes for the French election. Wonderful
and charming process to watch. When the election results became known
that evening, it seemed to be the main topic of conversation at the
conference for days. The result surprised everyone- the French I heard
discussing it consider the result a major catastrophe. The result
filled 10 pages in the main Italy newspaper the next day too.
Tommorrow (Saturday), there will be demonstrations (throughout France)
against the election results. I am not sure the purpose of the
demonstrations, but it seems that alot of people want to make their
voices heard.
