Perhaps I'm biased, and simply very pleased to see those allegedly persuasive
spokespeople on the side of liberty and science, but I don't quite see any
grounds for complaint about the advent of the proposed ads. We do not lack
alternative, more sophisticated discussions, pro and con, on legalizing
cloning. These allegedly low-brow commercials will not displace or prevent
more careful analyses. They merely add one more viewpoint in what we should
celebrate as a wide-ranging, diverse, and passionate public debate.
Anyhow, get used to it. As the sorts of things that we have so long
discussed in lofty and dignified tones (snort!) increasingly come into the
public eye, they will suffer splattering by the public mud.
