The problem is usually data, not hardware. Loss of hardware is nasty, but
not fatal.
It is a good idea to store your data off-site. (A server hidden in the
closet, in the cellar, at the neighbour (WiFi), peering arrangement with
some other parties -- overnight rsync cable modem is your friend, a colo
box somewhere, etc).
