AFAIK, this was the first strategy of G.W.Bush's new administration. And if
I remember correctly, several violent incidents have drawn him back into
the conflict. 1st law of foreign policy for super-powers: You can't leave
the game...

But I have to admit, that I'd gladly donate the remains of the Berlin wall
to enclose the whole area, let everyone out who wants to leave in peace and
doesn't care where, maybe throw in all collected weapons from Bosnia and
Afghanistan - and wait until it gets quiet. After that, the UN could make
that land a theme park, displaying the infinity of human stupidity...
