All other things are not really equal. A sufficiently lower
metabolism leads to lethargy. Believe me, I know. Until my new
doctor figured it out I was going hypo-thyroid. I couldn't
figure out why things seemed more difficult, I was gaining
weight with no change in activty or diet and I didn't have any
energy.

Of course, as in many things, it is a quesiton of the proper
balance.

Hmmm. If the Singularity is coming in the next couple of
decades I would rather burn bright and very active now to do my
part in bringing it about rather than worrying too much about my
metabolism not being slow enough for a naturally maximally long
life pre-Singularity. As long as I survive the requisite amount
of time then I'm home-free.
