I don't think this recommendation is empirical for a permanent
lifestyle. The point is that it is far easier to gain weight faster in
an environment of plentiful food when your metabolism is slow than when
it is fast. When dieting to lose weight, you will lose weight faster
with a faster metabolism than with a slow one.
