In my opinion, 100-150 years if necessary. I believe we have immense
supplies.

<<Burning methane is unsustainable unless you have robust systems
for recycling the carbon. There is an easy solution for this
that involves fertilizing the oceans with iron or phosphorus but

at this as only a last resort.>>

Ah! Now are you are attempting to resolve the COČ Problem. That is NOT being
addressed by the Greens, only that uranium fission plants of German soil are
impermissible. That is a wholly different issue.

<<If the Europeans become addicted to Russian natural gas (the closest
supply), more than they currently are then they are in the same position
with regard to Russia as the U.S. is with regard to the Middle East.
Not a wise long term strategy. >>

Again, Robert, you introduce an important issue, but not central to this
thread. The Euros have demanded that nuclear fission cease, upon German soil.
All else, becomes subserviant to this ideological, viewpoint. But to address
your query, there are immense resources of natural gas available, if one
spends money to build retorts that separate impurities from natural gas. Much
of this gas resource exists well outside the CIS. If Germany switched to coal
gasification, it would have abundant methane to power turbines.

But again, we would encounter the release of COČ in its production. The
World-Watch Institue advocates increased use of natural gas for this reason.
Perhaps Germany's electricity will then come from natural gas produced in
Australia or the Middle East?
