So I sent the following out (with variations in the commentary, and the
subject "FW: Congress and Hollywood Want To Make You Pay More") to a bunch
of people I know. Anyone on the list who wants to try their hand at seeding
this viral meme as well, go for it. More the merrier!

This is something of an experiment in activism for me and a few other
people; it came up on a mailing list. I know that you know a number of
people who tend to pass self-interest meme e-mails along, and this was
crafted to appeal to that mindset. I'd appreciate it if you could delete my
commentary and forward this to those people you know. Everything below is
100% true, by the way, and really only the tip of the iceberg if this thing
gets passed.

Congress and Hollywood Want To Make You Pay More

Hollywood has gotten Congress to propose a law that will force you to have
to buy new VCRs, CD players, and computers. If you keep your old ones, any
new CDs, DVDs or movies you buy won't work! If you buy a new one, any old
CDs, DVDs or movies won't work! Either way, we're in trouble! Also, forget
about taking home videos -- you'll need to go to a professional place if you
want to make copies for your folks.

This little surprise bill is called "SSSCA" and is being slipped in by the
Hollywood movie moguls so they can make more $$$ and force us to buy the
same stuff twice. Anyway, I'm passing this along to everyone I know, it'd be
great if you did the same. I guess you could write, fax or call your
congressman or complain at your local Best Buy, CompUSA, or Circuit City on
this.
