Uploaded Terminology [was Re: Uploading]

Hi all,

Just recently, Eugene sent out a reply, pointing out some specific
advantages of uploading. One of the things he mentioned was the ability to
do "mind morphing" - he mentioned this in the context of flexibility and
safety.

It so happens that I'm reworking part of the mind uploading introduction
text this morning, so I thought I'd check up on the actual meaning of the
terminology we use. It struck me that my original assumption about "mind
morphing" was confused, since I was thinking of "mind merging" in the
context of distributed or multiple copies (safety and flexibility).

>From Webster's Dictionary:

MERGE:
  plunge, engulf in something
  combine, unite, coalesce (!)
  blend gradually (!)

MORPH:
  change form or character
  undergo transformation

I'm sure that both are quite possible in an uploaded state. Now I'm just
wondering which one is usually being implied in the context Eugene
mentioned. Eugene, anyone?

Thanks,
       Randal
