I just wanted to point out that this is not a new idea.

20 years or so ago, this was a very popular idea, I remember the
Popular Science issue highlighting the competing systems.

It was known as PRT for "Personnal Rapid Transit". The Illinois
city of Rosemont was considering such a system a few years back.

Should be easy to implement with todays tech.
