Contact with ETI may profoundly effect religion, but it won't destroy
religion, because religion is based on fantasy to begin with (just as ETI is).
In contrast, contact with ETI would shatter science completely, because it
would refute the very laws of physics (which I don't expect to happen).

Useless hypotheses, etc.:
consciousness, phlogiston, philosophy, vitalism, mind, free will, qualia,
analog computing, cultural relativism, GAC, Cyc, Eliza, cryonics, individual
uniqueness, ego, human values, scientific relinquishment, malevolent AI,
non-sensory experience, SETI

We move into a better future in proportion as the scientific method
accurately identifies incorrect thinking.
