Religionists have no problem incorporating ETs into their superstitious
cosmology, because it's all make believe to begin with. Scientists, in start
contrast, would find it impossible to fit ETs (Santa Claus, Harry Potter, et
al.) into any version of rational physics, because science is based on
empirical evidence. So you see, it's science (rather than religion) that would
be shattered by contact with ETs.

consciousness, phlogiston, philosophy, vitalism, mind, free will, qualia,
analog computing, cultural relativism, GAC, Cyc, Eliza, cryonics, individual
uniqueness, ego, human values, scientific relinquishment, malevolent AI,
non-sensory experience, SETI
We move into a better future in proportion as science displaces superstition.
