Oh my god... It's good to realize that European society has at least
in SOME domains less baggage than (part of) the US...

* Scholarly note from the Editor: The author is referring to a
philosophicomical pamphlet written by Sade after the French
Revolution, called "Français, encore un effort si vous voulez être
républicains" [Yet Another Effort, Frenchmen, If You Want to Become
Republican], in which he makes, among many other things, a long
defence of sodomy. I remember of a very broad (and partly invented)
evocation of sodomy across time and space, in many tribes and
cultures, concluding that wherever we turn to, we are to see it
practiced, and specifically adding that if we go to the moon, no doubt
we will discover that they do it there, too. (I'm not sure this was
actually confirmed, however -- I was busy being born that week.)
