More reationally, anything less horrible in immediate and
subsequent suffering than that would be.

It hasn't resulted in full Carnivore yet, it is simply on the
way if not stopped. Transparency must go both ways to be at all
not dictatorial. And transparency must yield to individual
encryption. Our electronic tools and communications should be
just as sacred and free from arbitrary search and seizure as our
own bodies and minds. Anything less makes increasing technology
an overwhelming potential slave collar.

Many will do much more than complain. But all too many won't.
