>I am concerned about these early attempts to clone humans. We do not have
the technique perfected in animals yet. Dr. Zavos is going to use the same
technique that produced Dolly. The inventor of that technique says it
produced hundreds(?) of deformed failures before he got one to work. Dr.
Zavos does not have any improvement on this technique and does not seem to
have any way to prevent this large number of failures. I am not sure what
the advantage of human trials for cloning would be before the technique is
perfected in animals. Until the safety margin is improved, I'm not sure
this is viable yet.<
(snip) >I want cloning to be available for me, but I fear this will delay my
access to it and set back the time table many years.<
Harvey, I agree with your concern about the possible clone-rush as a hasty and even knee-jerk to "governmental authority" At the same time, I admire the pioneering guts of anyone who stands up to his/her belief.
>From a practical point of view, I think it could be damaging up the road if rashness overtakes conscientiousness.
This is indeed an appropriate topic for Pro-Act. Do you want to write a brief summary of your ideas - explaining both the pros and cons of such - to put on the Web site?
Thanks,
Natasha
