I don't think that Dr. Vinge fully realized his "universe" but merely
sketched out something that would be a good sci-fi tale. Its mighty early for
contact with a final mind, and probably too early for an Old One, or a
Blight. If there is no hurry, then why hurry? Would a SI attempt to solve the
problem of entropy, or is this likely to be a work in progress? Maybe along
the way, SI's will create (if they desire it) the means to sustain and create
new stars and star systems, more or less permanently, till all protons
pop-some 10³º years from now. That is time enough for the big Entropy
project.
