I went to grad school with David Slowinski. A few years later, I was
at Livermore and he was at Cray, so we ran into each other occasionally.
I don't know what his official day job was but he talked them into
letting him test out new Crays before shipping by running his Mersenne
software on it. Which let him discover primes 27 and 29 through 34.
I guess he stopped when Cray folded.
