Ex-post-extro.....

I just got home a couple hours ago after leaving you all last night at
the Hilton. Nearly missed my connection in DC due to having passed out
sleeping waiting for the second flight to arrive. Dave Lubkin apparently
got back to NH earlier, but I can't complain at all given the generosity
of Robert Bradbury in having me flown out for Extro5, for which he has
my thanks. I truly had a blast. It was great to meet in the flesh
everyone that I've been conversing with the past 6 years (though there
were several who were not there that I wish had been: Eugene, Damien B.,
Doug Jones, among others). Mike Butler and Spike Jones deserve and get
my great thanks for bunking me, though at this point I would have
pitched a tent by that Quetzalcoatl statue around the corner from the
Hilton to make it this year.
Hanging out with Spike, Anders, and Greg Burch shooting the bull and
cracking wise at Spike's place was great, and Eliezer's Hatzel Kote
(sp?) cup game was entertaining, but I'm still waiting for my turn to
take a drink. ;-)
Meeting and talking with the lovely Barbara Lamar, Amara Graps, Mariko
and Natasha was great, I'm glad Amara didn't run into more travel
problems than she did. I wish now I had spent a few more days there to
talk more with everyone, but maybe we can do something about that in the
future.
Raspberries for David Brin. I let my admiration for his SF get the
better of me. He actually had the gall to make the bald faced assertion
that I have contempt for the rights of others. Don't worry, I'm not that
strong an impromptu public speaker, as you may have noticed, but I'm
writing a follow up diatribe that will shake the 'transparent society'
to its foundations. (I invite more honest criticism from Messrs Szabo
and Miller when I post it). Based on my expressed admiration for his
writing, and the way he treated me afterward (and thence quickly fleeing
before I could respond), indicates who it is that really has distain for
others, but that may just be my impression.
It was great chatting with James Rogers, Robert Whittaker, Lee Crocker,
Harvey Newstrom, Kennita Watson, the Javien guys, and of course Mr.
Bradbury.

I will be posting some detailed essays of my thoughts on many of the
topics we discussed this weekend, so stay tuned.
