I can't remember if I read about this before or
after Derek Freeman's scandalous book about Mead's
sojourn in Samoa, but I saw somewhere (I don't remember
where) a claim that Mead had reacted in the 50's to
the first Kinsey report by saying that Kinsey's
research ought to have been suppressed, beccause it
was a threat to the social fabric. If it's true,
it's something I could never forgive her for, entirely
apart from the doubts surrounding _Coming of Age in Samoa_.
