Last night NOVA/FRONTLINE aired a two hour special "harvest of
Horror" a program about biotech food.
I thought both sides were very well represented, I was a little
surprised at Jeremy Rifkin in particular, he left his well known
theatrics at home, and I thought he presented his arguments well.
The ELF came off as the mind-welded-bomb-throwers they essentially
are.
The program presented an excellent overview of both the
technologies and the issues.
It all came down to a familiar issue, labeling. The pro-biotechers
were unanimously opposed to any kind of labeling. The interesting
part was the study of the focal groups. While they expressed a wide
variety of opinions on the subject, they were unanimous about
labeling. In fact opposition to biotech dropped almost completely
after the idea of labeling was introduced.
It is clearly a pro-choice issue.
