Mercury Risk?

On several webpages claiming that amalgam fillings are
hazardous I read the claim that the level if mercury
vapor (Hg0) in the mouth air of some people with
fillings can exceed Federal safety regulations for
workplace Hg0 air levels. Thinking this a rather
remarkable claim I sought to test it since no
  supporting documentation was presented...

This study gives us a mouth-air amalgam-Hg0 measure:

> Neurotoxicology 1997;18(2):315-24
>
> Mercury vapor inhalation inhibits binding of GTP to tubulin in rat
> brain: similarity to a molecular lesion in Alzheimer diseased brain.
>
> Pendergrass JC, Haley BE, Vimy MJ, Winfield SA, Lorscheider FL
>
> College of Pharmacy, University of Kentucky, Lexington 40536, USA.
>
> Hg2+ interacts with brain tubulin and disassembles microtubules that
> maintain neurite structure. Since it is well known that Hg vapor (Hg0)
> is continuously released from "silver" amalgam tooth fillings and is
> absorbed into brain, rats were exposed to Hg0 4h/day for 0, 2, 7, 14
> and 28 d at 250 or 300 micrograms Hg/m3 air, concentrations present
> in mouth air of some humans with many amalgam fillings.

IAN: 300 mcg Hg/m3 is equal to 0.3 mg/m3 of mercury vapor
in the mouth air of some people with many amalgam fillings.
I found this about Hg0 in a book at the library, it states:

"OSHA limit in workplace air: 0.1 mg/m3"

  Source: Harte, J., Holdren, C., Schneider, R., & Shirley,
  C. (1991). Toxics A to Z, A guide to everyday pollution
hazards. Berkeley: University of California Press, p.344.
Source is a standard text, not anti-amalgam in any way.

This appears to indicate that if you have many amalgam
fillings, the Hg0 in the air you breath could be 3 times
over the OSHA safety limits. This appears to define unsafe.
It appears that the claim on anti-amalgam webpages was true.
