I wish. My own perfection of extreme evil is nowhere near as
advanced as early predictions expected. I thought extreme evil would
be a lot more advanced by the twenty-first century.
Our early predictions of "1984" plus seventeen years indicated total
subjugation of humanity. Instead, we have concerns about cookies
keeping track of our on-line purchases. Our early predictions of the
cold war plus twenty years indicated a nuclear war by now. Instead
we have high altitude bombing raids with hardly any casualties. Our
early predictions of the Forbin Project plus thirty years indicated
the global computer control by now. Instead, we have Windows 2000.
All pretty scary stuff, but nowhere near the perfection of extreme
evil that Bill Joy claims. I think he is being overly optimistic.
Most of humanity's extreme evils have been dismal failures. I'm
beginning to think that we may never achieve the perfection of
extreme evil.
