The literature on this contains one of my favorite terms in biology. Much
work is done with Meadow Voles, small rodents which form monogamous pairs.
This was considered to be the long and short of their sexual behavior, until
they were observed having little "youthful indiscretions" with other
males/females. The discoverers of this behavior have termed the rodents
"sneaky copulators." Biologists are far from as imaginative in their
terminology as geneticists, or even physicists, but this term is a great
description of these rodents (and, I would suggest, some primates ;P )
