I do remember the quotes listed <not repeated here> But none of them
support the initial scenario of exes lurking in orbit ready to destroy
any new exes that come up from earth.

The view the quotes do put forward is not "Darwinian" per se but merely
a logical extrapolations of possible niches and how they might be
filled. It does not preclude other types of agreements and contracts,
indeed Moravec brings these out. The situation presented is not a lot
different than many periods and places on Earth among humans. It is
not at all uncommon for humans to be effectively stripped of assets
although we usually stop short of killing the person.
