Globalstar is just about bankrupt themself... defaulted on their debt this
week.
DirecTV and Starband/Dish have two-way satellite Net access, but I don't think
it would work well in a mobile configuration. You have to carefully point
the dish to get it to work. Up to 400kb/sec speeds.
There is something called CDPD in some areas of the US that is about equivalent
to 28kb dialup. See goamerica.com
Palm VII has wireless data capability using an old data network operated by
Bellsouth. Also see goameraica.com for coverage maps. Pretty slow.
Richochet service by Metricom is in multiple cities now. 128kb speeds. See
metricom.com for more info.
After those you are talking about cellular modems which max out at 9.6kb if
you are lucky, and cost per minute of use.
