I've been trying to think of an Extropian angle on this film, but I
haven't had much luck. I know we were all supposed to appreciate the
Matrix for its intellectual explorations of the nature of reality and life
in a virtual world, but if you liked it for the martial arts sequences,
I highly recommend Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
This movie takes martial arts action to the next level. Characters in
Crouching Tiger run up walls, across water, and leap hundreds of feet
through the air, all with effortless grace amid beautifully choreographed
battle sequences. From what I've read, it is expected that the Matrix
sequels will use similar effects, with Neo and other characters flying
and having battles in the air.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a great looking movie, filmed in China
with beautiful cinematography. The story is simple but engaging, with
plenty of action and romance, and touches of humor. It is subtitled,
but you soon cease to notice, as the characters speak from the heart.
