This is the same with the Internet, telephone communications, digital
TV, etc. The United States has the most outmoded systems, with the
UK coming in second. Why? Early adopters of technology get it
first. Then they hold on to what they have longer. By the time
other countries get the technology later, they are buying the latest
and greatest stuff while we still have our old decaying
infrastructure. Cities being built in the Saudi desert are totally
fiber-optic and digital. Generic information jacks are everywhere
and everything is digitally wired. This is easy to do when you build
a city from the ground-up. It is very difficult to retrofit an
infrastructure.
