My initial reaction to this is twofold: I am pleased to see Extropianism
discussed in forums such as Disinfo.com (any clue as to their readership
numbers?), but I hate consistently seeing the same reaction in media such
as this: "overtly optimistic," "suffocating idealism," and "geek
philosophy." It is the snide tone of the adjectives which I find quite
frustrating. The article is somewhat fact-based, but also makes a lot of
mistakes with blanket statements such as "The Extropianist movement's
ultimate goal is the 'Singularity.'" This is simply not true for every
extropian.
I have a lot more reservations about this article as well, but it all boils
down to one thing: we need to find ways to get more positive than negative
media.
