However, referencing Niven's _Patchwork Girl_ (one of his Gil the ARM novels),
putting someone convicted of a death penalty offense into cryonic storage while
undergoing the often decades long appeals process would minimize the cost of
keeping death row prisoners, while allowing a full appeals process to continue,
and the chance to be revived if the conviction is overturned.
