Even though I thought Mike's response "Re: Fear of guns" was interesting
and AFIAK accurate, I winced for a moment, worrying how other list members
might react to it. And when I read the back-and-forth about lethality of
bare hands, it felt like one of those tangents we keep going off on.
Then I stopped, and mulled it over.
The chronic arguments we have on gun control are pointless, and I think
most of us are glad when they disappear for a few months. No one ever
changes their mind, and the same ground is rehashed incessantly.
But this is different. Straight-talk about the most effective means of
defending your life today, with or without a firearm, is unquestionably
important and appropriate, and I think we should encourage those with
expertise or experience to share it with us.
Think of it as a time-proven life-extension technology.
*My* favorite means of self-defense is identifying locations, people, and
situations that are likely to expose me to violence, and avoiding them.
One of the many reasons I live in New Hampshire.
