One limitation of phone conversations is that they're conducted in real
time, so you can only be in on one conversation at a time, usually with
only one other person. Conference calls are difficult to coordinate,
especially if the participants live in different time zones.
With email, one can participate in many different conversations in a day
and with people all over the world.
