I'm here...
It's a little better than that...I've been keeping records for some time now
and with my new kitty-kat (550 hp 3406E cut back to 475 hp) I'm averaging a
consistent 5.5 mpg over the last 80 thousand miles or so.
Fuel economy depends (as you are undoubtedly aware) on a number of
things...not the least of which is aerodynamics....
I have NO aero dynamics....I pull a RGN and haul overdimensional
loads...."high wide and heavy".....kinda like lead parachutes...
So if **I** can get 5.5mpg on a consistent basis (with one of the largest
"off the shelf" engines on the market...<ok...there is a 600>) then I would
assume that the more aerodynamic rigs (just about anything else...but
particularly boxes...) would get in the neighborhood of 6 to 7mpg...
Which is what they claim...some claim as much as 8.......
But even a box isn't very aerodynamic...
